This project renovates a 60-year-old traditional Japanese house, preserving its original columns and beams while introducing ceiling slits and ivory-toned walls to create a lighter atmosphere. Views of the garden beyond the engawa strengthen the connection between indoors and outdoors, balancing historic character with modern living.
The light-filled living area offers multiple ways to relax, complemented by natural materials and soft lighting in the dining kitchen. At the entrance, cherished artwork and a chair used by the mother for over 40 years quietly reflect the home’s family history.
